Kroger donates $10,000 to Eastern Michigan University’s Swoop’s Food Pantry

YPSILANTI – Kroger recently donated $10,000 to Swoop’s Food Pantry at Eastern Michigan University to help eliminate student hunger among EMU students. Since 2018, Kroger has donated over $70,000 to Swoop’s Food Pantry.

With an average of one in three students facing hunger, Swoop’s Food Pantry’s mission is to provide the community with food aid and resources to impact well-being and success.

For many students across the country and here at EMU, budgeting for food can be difficult for many reasons. According to a recent Hope Poll38% of two-year college students and 29% of four-year college students reported experiencing food insecurity in the past 30 days.

“There is an increased need to offer resources that reduce student hunger, especially now with rising inflation costs,” said Christa Reid, director of development for Swoop’s Food Pantry. “Kroger’s continued support has been essential in helping us ensure the shelves are fully stocked for our students.”

Kroger’s donation is part of its Zero Hunger | Zero Waste Social Impact Planwhich was introduced in 2017 and stems from Kroger’s commitment as an American grocer to end hunger in its communities and eliminate waste across the company by 2025.
